1. Can I excuse my student from Homeroom for the whole semester?
-
No, please understand that Homeroom is an opportunity for your son/daughter to see teachers and get academic help outside of their regular class time.
-
The expectation for Homeroom period is that if the student is on school grounds, they must report to homeroom. One may not “excuse” a student from Homeroom to “hang around” in the halls, Commons, parking lot, or other common areas.
2. How many absences can my student have before they are penalized?
-
Even though you can make up work from excused classes, it is impossible to replicate the learning experience in the classroom.
-
Students may not receive credit for missed work during an unexcused absence.
-
The detention process may take effect after the 3rd UNX absence.
-
A student may lose credit after 12 or more absences (excused or unexcused).
3. How late can my student be before it is considered an absence?
4. Can freshman leave for lunch, if a parent calls in and excuses them for it?
5. Are there any consequences for tardies?
6. What are the consequences for unexcused absences?
-
Please make every effort to contact the attendance office (303-387-3502) within 48 hours if you wish to excuse your son/daughter from classes missed (unless permission is granted by a CHS sport or club).
-
Students with absences that are not excused within 48 hours will be assigned after school detention and/or Saturday school.
-
Absences that are not excused within 48 hours will need to be cleared through an administrator.
7. What if there is inclement weather?
- Student safety is our top concern. When there is inclement weather, we expect that some students will need additional time to ensure their safe arrival.
